Weight per coil: 50 to 600kg Some material grades of stainless steel wire brief intoduction: Type 302 stainless steel wire is a general purpose stainless alloy typically composed of 18% chromium and 8% nickel. It is the most widely used stainless spring wire because of its high corrosion resistance properties and good tensile strength. For spring applications it is generally furnished in the cold drawn condition. Type 302 springs have good strength at moderate temperatures. If properly treated after forming they will set less than most other spring materials at temperatures up to 500ºF. Type 302 material in the spring condition is slightly magnetic due to the transformation of some martinsite in the drawing operation. The greater the amount of cold reduction the higher the degree of magnetism. Gibbs soap coated Type 302 stainless steel wire is available in the size range 0.014" to 0.625". All wire conforms to ASTM-A-313 and AMS-5688. Similar in composition to Type 302, Type 316 stainless steel wire has a slightly higher nickel content and 2-2.50% molybdenum giving this alloy better corrosion resistance. Type 316's tensile strength is 10-15% lower than that of Type 302, and the alloy is slightly less magnetic in the spring temper than Type 302. With its superior cold working properties, it can be used for severe cold forming operations and exhibits short time tensile and creep strength properties at elevated temperatures. Gibbs Type 316 stainless steel wire is coated for coiling and is available in the range 0.015" - 0.625" conforming to ASTM A 313. Nickel coated available on application in size range 0.007" to 0.130"

It was developed mid century to conserve nickel and it is used as an alternative to type 301 in some tempered applications. Because of 201â??s relatively high yield strength in the annealed condition, use of 201 is limited. Type 201 is generally used in the tempered condition particularly for springs and fasteners. 201 Stainless will retain a comparable ductility to 301 even with the higher yield strength. Alloy 204CU is a chromium-magnesium austenitic stainless steel with an addition of 2-4% copper and nitrogen of 0.05-0.25%. Due to the addition of copper the alloy has better formability than 201 and 304. The copper improves corrosion and resistance to stress corrosion cracking in certain media. 204CU bridges the cost-property gap between 200 and 300 series stainless. Alloy 204CU is slightly after cold working but can be minimized. Type 301 is an austenitic stainless steel capable of attaining high strengths and ductility by cold working. It is not hardenable by heat treatment. Type 301 is non-magnetic in the annealed condition and becomes increasingly magnetic with cold working. It is preferable over types 302 and 304 in the tempered condition because the higher elongations (which are attainable at a given strength level) facilitate fabrication. Type 302 is not hardenable by heat treatment and in non-magnetic in the annealed condition. It becomes increasingly magnetic with cold working. If carbide precipitation is an issue 304 may be a better choice with its lower carbon content.
