Both blast furnace coke and foundry coke are made by baking a blend of selected coking coals in certain high temperature without contact with air until almost all of the volatile matter is driven off. The resulting product, coke, consists principally of carbon, as listed in above table. By-products are crude coal tar, light oils, and ammonia, etc.
Generally speaking, chemistry, size, and strength have been considered the most important properties for use in the blast furnace. Other important factors are coke reactivity and csr (coke strength after reactivity), which deal with the amount and size of pores and walls, porosity, and density. Carbon textures and microstructure are two main factors that affect the reactivity, stability, and the coke strength after reaction.
G-high graphite petroleum coke is widely used as carburant in the steel-making industry and precision casting industry, reduction pregnant agent in the casting industry, reducing agent in metallurgical industry and as one kind of refractories, etc.
G-high graphite petroleum coke could promote the nucleation of the graphite in liquid iron, increase the amount of spheroidal graphite, and improve the structure and the grade of grey iron.
Based on the microstructure observation, the features of g-high graphite petroleum coke are as the following:
First, it can greatly increase the proportion of ferrite content of the nodular cast iron without pearlite stabilizer; second, it can increase the percentage of v and vi shaped graphite when it is used; third, comparing with the improvement of the shape of spheroidal graphite, the great increase of spheroidal graphite amount can decrease the usage of expensive nucleating agent for later micro-adjustment and save the cost remarkably.
