Roots blowers are used in numerous industries and industrial processes, including pneumatic conveying. Roots blowers play a vital role in many manufacturing and processing systems. Roots blowers are technically known as "positive displacement rotary blowers" and are commonly referred to as "blowers".
What does a Roots blower do?
Roots blowers are used to produce a constant airflow that is independent of the exhaust pressure conditions. The application of Roots blowers is limited to low and medium pressure and vacuum processes, and can be used to provide small to large airflow rates.
How does a Roots blower work?
Roots blowers consist of two identical and symmetrical rotors with two or three meshing blades in a sealed housing. The housing is valveless, and the air inlet and exhaust ports are usually located on opposite sides. The rotors rotate in opposite directions and are synchronized using a set of gears.
The air is displaced from the inlet to the outlet by the movement of the meshing blades on the counter-rotating rotors. The airflow rate produced by the displacement is mainly determined by the rotational speed of the rotors within the Roots blower. There is no change in the amount of air within the Roots blower, so no air compression occurs. Roots blowers are typically air-cooled, and some models do not require oil as a lubricant (oil-free).
