Varieties commonly produced in Nigeria are; 1)Bird peppers Ata Eye ( ) Var.Minima This varieties is shot in length and very hot species. Ripe and unripe bird peppers are used for preparing pepper sauces. This pepper is assumed to be the hottest pepper in Nigeria. 2 )Cayenne pepper or Red pepper â?? Sombo ( ) Var.Fingerh. This is the most common type of pepper in Nigeria. It is also called Red Hot pepper or Guinea spice. Its main peculiarity is that it can be stored for a very long time in the form of powder. It is very long and thin. It is a bit mild as regards to its hotness. 3)Capsicum annum ( Var.Baccatum ) â?? Ata wewe. This species is also common in the market.
