Sodium bentonite Geosynthetic clay liner GCL are high performance environmental liners comprised of a layer of low-permeability sodium bentonite combined with geosynthetic carriers, such as woven and/or nonwoven geotextiles, and in some cases polymer geomembranes. GCL have been proven to provide better engineered performance and durability than several feet of compacted clay with a total composite thickness of less than one quarter of an inch. About the clay material, it is usually bentonite, which sandwiched between two layers geotextiles. This lining mechanism is mechanically bonded by needle punching from one nonwoven geotextile through the bentonite to the other nonwoven or woven geotextile. The bentonite swells and extrudes through the geotextile fabric at the overlap, forming a seal by producing a dense and uniform clay barrier with the same hydraulic qualities in all parts of the clay liner Bentonite is a natural clay formed by weathering of volcanic ash. Its chief constituent is the clay mineral montmorillonite. Bentonite is distinguished from other clays by its extreme fineness, highly absorbent nature and curious property of swelling in water. (1)GCL mass per unit area â?¥4000g/m2, width:1m~6m. length:30m or at your request. (2) Thicknessâ?¥6mm, bentonite quality of unit areaâ?¥4000g/m2, mass per unit area of nonwoven geotextile â?¥200g/m2, PP woven geotextileâ?¥100g/m2. Properties: GCL not only have all the characteristics of geotextile material, but also has excellent water (seepage) performance. 1) Good waterproof capacity, sodium bentonite can form a gel layer which does not permit the penetration of water 2) It has strong ability to fit the uneven sedimentation well. 3) Good water-keeping and self-fix capacity 4.)Permanent waterproof capacity, sodium bentonite is natural inorganic mineral material, there is no corrosion and age happened to sodium bentonite 5)sodium bentonite is harmless to human being and environment. 6)easy operation, it can be fixed in nail and gasket, it can reduce the building time greatly. Advantages: It was possible to order the exact length of liner required across the channel to be supplied on one roll. This eliminated the need to â??cut and pasteâ?? the liner. The material is suitable for sites where no clay source was available. Disadvantages: The material is very heavy, difficult to handle, and labour intensive to install. Features: Improved leakage performance Permanent waterproof performance Simple construction and short time limit for a project. Not influenced by air temperature. A kind of green material and good to environmental protection. More versatile than compacted clay Increased airspace and liner efficiency
