Methyl anthranilate, also known as MA, methyl 2-aminobenzoate, or carbomethoxy aniline, is an ester of anthranilic acid. Its chemical formula is CHNO. It has a strong and fruity grape smell, and one of its key uses is as a flavoring agent. Methyl anthranilate (MANT), which gives grape scent and flavor, has been extensively used in flavoring foods (e.g., candy, chewing gum, soft drinks, and alcoholic drinks, etc.) and drugs (as a flavor enhancer and/or mask). Due to its pleasant aroma, MANT is an important component in perfumes and cosmetics.
