High purity alumina powder is a compound, commonly known as aluminum oxide (Al2O3). It is odorless, white, crystalline powder. It has very high melting point. It is insoluble in water and difficult solubility in mineral acids and strong alkali. The variety formed at very high temperature is quite inert chemically.
