Gambir (Uncaria) is a genus of plants belonging to the Rubiaceae family. In Indonesia gambier is generally used for betel nut. More important uses are as a tanning agent and dye. Gambir also contains catechins (catechins), a natural ingredient that is antioxidant. The main content of Gambir extract is catechins, around 7-33%. Besides Gambir extract catechins contain various components, including: Kathechu tannat acid 20-55%, 20-30% pyrokatechol, 1-3% fluorescent gambier, red katechu 3-5%, 2-4% quercetin, 1-2% fixed oil and 1-2% wax. 6 Gambir extract contains functional compounds included in group of polyphenol compounds and these compounds are the result of secondary metabolites plants that make up the tannin class
