Turmeric, derived from the dried root of the Curcuma longa plant in the ginger family, is native to the Indian subcontinent and Southeast Asia. This perennial, rhizomatous plant thrives in temperatures ranging from 20-30C and requires ample annual rainfall. Its rhizomes are harvested annually, either used whole or boiled, dried, and then ground into a vibrant orange-yellow powder.
