Bentonite has high swelling properties along with good viscosity and liquid limit. These properties are highly valued in most of the industrial applications. Sodium bentonite is well suited as a binder in the preparation of pellets and in foundry and as oil-well drilling mud. Bentonite is stabilizing fine, heavy and technical ceramic products. It is a used as anti-settling agent in engobes and glazes, fluxing agent, and plasticizer.

BENTONITE CLAY Product Description : Bentonite is a clay from the Smectite group that mainly consists of montmorillonite which is a composed and plastic clay by nature. It is obtained as a result of volcanic eruption, the ash that evokes out and alters to form a bentonite clay. The clay got its name from a knight as it was shipped in the name of Taylorite in the year 1888. In the previous years, its use and application was not known much to the people; though the production made was few tons a year. But with the progressing time, bentonite is applicable to many of the industries type and therefore its production has now jumped to some million tons a year. One may either find a sodium or calcium compound in bentonite that can be widely used by industries. Bentonite can be called as a clay in general as it actually a dirt but with wider applications in industries and useful to common people. The clay is mined and powdered to form a light brown clay which is actually obtained as a result of volcanic eruption. One will mainly find two different kinds of clay: Industrial and food grade. Chemically bentonite is either Sodium Bentonite or Calcium Bentonite. The clay also comes with some other minerals in trace amounts and they are present in the clay in different proportions. Sodium bentonite has an external use only because of its property of absorption. It has capacity to absorb much more than required and it is accidentally swallowed then it can lead to swelling in the stomach or intestine. The clay sodium bentonite is mainly used for industrial purpose only and in case of application on the body, it is strictly used externally. On the contrary, calcium bentonite does not swell much therefore it can be consumed by people. It is this bentonite that people use for their intake which we call it as food grade.
