The Charolais or Charolaise is a French breed of taurine beef cattle. It originates in, and is named for, the Charolais area surrounding Charolles, in the Sa´ne-et-Loire department, in the Bourgogne-Franche-Comt region of eastern France.

The mucous membranes are dark and short wheezing. The ears are large and tend to hang. (Although less than those of Indo-Pakistani breeds) It is a medium sized breed: height for males:130 to 138 cm Height for females: 116- 132 cm Weight for males: 500-650 kg and weight for females: 250-350 kg Also available is the Charolais Cattle. The breed tends to be large-muscled, with bulls weighing up to 1,100 kg (2,400 lb) and cows up to 900 kg (2,000 lb).
