Orange Pekoe is actually a black tea. It doesn't refer to an orange-flavored tea, or even a tea that brews up an orange-y copper color. This is the highest and main grade of tea produced. This comes as a whole leaf which is wiry, long and thin in character. Orange Pekoe tea has a strong scent and a smooth flavor with a sweet finish. Instead, Orange Pekoe refers to a particular grade of black tea.

Orange Pekoe (OP) OP Tea, which is Orange Pekoe Tea in full, is a grade of tea that has larger leaves compared to other Ceylon black tea grades. It is made of less wiry, but well twisted larger tea leaf. OP tea has a forest-like scent. The liquor generally has a light golden reddish color with a delicate lighter taste. Mostly it is preferred by tasters who prefer a lighter liquor. This tea takes slightly longer time to brew compared to other teas due it is leafiness. OP tea also has two other varieties named OP1 and OPA. The largest variety is Ceylon OPA Tea. The thinner and wiry variation is Ceylon OP1 Tea.

For this type of black tea Broken Orange Pekoe is the result of dried tea leaves which have a somewhat coarse texture so that the leaf shape is still visible but not intact. The tea leaf products we sell are produced from a clean production process so that quality dry tea leaf products are produced.
