Cullet sorting technology involves using automated machines and equipment to sort recycled glass cullet by color, size, and other characteristics. This process is important because glass of different colors, such as clear, green, and brown, have different chemical compositions and melting points, and they must be separated before they can be melted down and used to make new glass products.One common method of sorting cullet is through the use of optical sorters, which use sensors and cameras to detect the color and shape of individual pieces of glass as they move along a conveyor belt. The optical sorters then use air jets or mechanical arms to separate the cullet by color and remove any contaminants, such as plastic or ceramic materials.Another method of sorting cullet is through the use of vibrating screens, which separate the cullet by size. The screens are designed with different sized openings, allowing smaller pieces of cullet to fall through while larger pieces are sorted into different categories based on their size.Some cullet sorting systems also use lasers to detect and remove any impurities, such as metal or stone fragments, that may be present in the recycled glass.
