Nelaton Catheter, Urological, Different Sizes

Urological catheters are mainly used to drain the bladder and upper urinary tract.
When choosing a urological (urethral) catheter for the patient, several factors must be taken into account, such as medical needs, expected period of use (short or long term), personal choice and what are the risks associated with the conditions of infection.
Catheter material is essential, as the wrong type of material can cause urethral inflammation, allergies, phlebitis, inlays and infection. The use of a catheter should be as short as possible to prevent infections caused by bacteria such as Pseudomonas aeruginosa and enterococci. The Nelaton catheter is used for short-term catheterization of the bladder, excretion of residual urine or for the introduction of various drugs (infusions) into the bladder. The distal end of the catheter is rounded, atraumatic, has two lateral openings.
