Expolanka (Pvt) Limited recognized the increasing growth in the demand for value added fruits, in the international markets. Dried Fruits was trending in the markets. but found the dried fruits marketed by other South East Asian countries cannot be matched, as our produce prices comparatively was high.. There was a need to come out with a product that will be more healthy and an an alternate to the sugar coated dried fruits available in the other South East Asian countries. Our research recognized the the answer to beat the competition lies in the natural taste and quality of our fruits and to market them in the form of sugar free naturally dried fruits. The products so produced and displayed at several international markets, created the demand overwhelmingly and encouraged the company to embark on this venture.
The company used the connections it has already established with farmers and suppliers to create the additional supply chains to increase supply volumes of fruits such as pineapple, Papaya, Mango, Banana, Jack fruit etc, for the purpose of the fruit drying venture. The Company also identified entrepreneurs to establish production centers to source its requirement of Dried Fruits and Fruits in Juice, and today it has established outsourced production centers in Kirindiwela, Embiliptiya,Sevenagala and Matale.These factories produce the Companyâ??s requirement of Dried Pineapple, Papaya, Mango, Banana and Jackfruit.
The aggressive International marketing of Expolanka (Pvt) Limited, has generated growth in securing consistent orders, and today Expolanka (Pvt) Limited has exports an average of 30 to 40 Metric Tons of Dry Fruit across buyers in Europe and the USA, and has become the countryâ??s largest exporter of Dried Fruits. The entrepreneurs have also in turn been benefited with more production opportunities. This has been a catalyst for them to expand their operations, thereby offering more employment opportunities to the villagers in their area of production. These factories in total employees around 450 to 500 workers today. The Company recognized the basic factor to increase sales is to invest in getting the produce certified to meet international standards. To meet the quality standards of the buyers, the Company invested in sourcing certified & organic raw materials from suppliers and to get its outsourced production centers to carry all the required certifications. The Company has its own packing center at Radhana in the Kirindiwela area where all dried produce from the production centers are received and further quality checked, before packing for shipment. The Company packing Centre is itself is certified as required by the International buyers and is manned by a staff of 16 Employees.
