Calcium Formate 98% is calcium salt of formic acid which is also known as E238. It is stable at room temperature. It is highly inflammable and forms orthorhombic crystals.
Chemical Appearance
Calcium Formate 98% has the appearance of white crystals or crystalline powder. It smells slightly like acetic acid. It is soluble in water and insoluble in ethanol and methanol.
Calcium formate is commonly used as a component of an ensiling agent for silage treatment. The use of calcium formate in the silage suppresses the formation of side reaction products such as propionic acid, while promoting the formation of desirable lactic acid in anaerobic fermentation
