It has an alcohol component to dissolve water-soluble soils and an ether part to dissolve oil-soluble soils. It is used as a diluent and solvent in resins, polymers, paints, coatings, silk screen printing inks, pen inks, textile dyeing, printing, oils, nitrocellulose, gums, dyes, and soaps. It is used as a coalescing agent in latex paints and as a coupling agent in disinfectants, hard surface cleaners, rust removers, and water-based printing inks. It's also used as a metal cleaner and as a dye solvent in the textile industry.
