The styrax benzoin tree is evergreen, and grows naturally in northern sumatra, indonesia. The tree yields an almond shaped solid gum resin called benzoin gum sumatra (cas number: 9000-05-9), collected from incisions made into the trunk of the tree. The gum resin is of high quality and has many commercial uses.
