Hex bolts are used to fasten nuts or washers onto threaded shafts. They have hexagonal heads which allow them to be turned easily using a wrench. The head has six sides, each side having three flats. These flats can be used to grip the threads of the shaft. There are two types of hex bolts, standard and metric.
