Hop (Humuluslupulus L.) belongs to the Cannabaceae family, it is found in Poland as a wild plant, and is also grown to meet the needs of the pharmaceutical and food industry. Medicinal raw material included female inflorescence, commonly called as hops. The material contains essential oil (which comprises humulene as the main ingredient), tannins, polyphenols and resins. Hop products are used in mild nervous stress conditions, as well as to facilitate going to sleep. In order to enhance the therapeutic effects, hops are often combined with other materials of similar effect lemon balm, Passiflora, and valerian. Another indication includes reducing hot flushes in menopausal women, thanks to the estrogenic effect of hops. Hops have been used in cosmetics for a long time, for hair care and strengthening, as well as for relaxing baths.
