Deliciously tangy and one of the most highly prized natural foods in South Asia, the tamarind – the melodic name of which comes from the Persian "tamar-I-hind," meaning "date of India" – is gaining recognition and appreciation throughout the world. Processed tamarind products can be found in supermarkets, but remember that additives can alter the nutritional profile. It’s better to purchase tamarind when it's fresh and still in the pod. Calcined Bauxite: Calcined Bauxite is obtained by calcining (heating) superior grade Bauxite at high temperature (from 850 oC to 1600 oC). This removes moisture thereby increasing the alumina content. Compared to an alumina content of about 57 % to 58 % in raw Bauxite, Calcined Bauxite has an alumina content of 82 % to 86 %. The heating is carried out in rotary kilns. Calcination is done at different temperatures ranging from 850 oC to 1600 oC depending upon the customer’s application. The primary use of Ammonium Sulphate is as a fertilizer for alkaline soils. In the soil the ammonium ion is released and forms a small amount of acid, lowering the pH balance of the soil, while contributing essential nitrogen for plant growth. The main disadvantage to the use of Ammonium Sulphate is its low nitrogen content relative to Ammonium Nitrate, which elevates transportation costs. It is also used as an agricultural spray adjuvant for water soluble insecticides, herbicides, and fungicides. There it functions to bind iron and calcium cations that are present in both well water and plant cells. It is particularly effective as an adjuvant for 2,4-D (amine), glyphosate and glufosinate herbicides.
