Sodium chloride must be at least 97% NaCl, analysis of dry salt. The maximum amount of anti-caking agent (potassium or sodium ferrocyanide) is 150 ppm (0.015%).
No requirements have been set for the grain size of the salt. Traditionally, the maximum grain size of winter salt has been set to 5 mm, and the fines (sieve 0.125) has been a maximum of 5%.
