Stay wires shall be stranded steel wires, manufactured to BS 183, galvanized to BSI BS EN ISO 1461 with a minimum mean coating thickness of 2.83µm, or related IEC or other standards.
With a minimum breaking load of 60 K Newton. Stay wires shall be high tensile hot-dip galvanized with a diameter of 12mm (4mmx7). They shall be easy to bend and erect (not hard).
The outermost layer of stay wire shall be stranded with the right-hand lay.
All Stay wires shall be supplied on robust drums of approved materials and construction suitable to withstand
very rough transport and handling and to enable conductors or cables to be pulled out smoothly.
Drums shall be non-returnable and, if made from timber, shall be pressure–impregnated against fungal and insect attacks.
Wooden drums shall be lagged with closely fitting battens in accordance with standards as may be approved.
Battens shall be firmly secured to the drum flanges and finally, steel banded under tension close to each flange
using steel tape not less than 25 mm wide and 2mm thick and stapled to at least every third batten.
Drum spindle holes shall be reinforced by steel plates.
INSPECTION AND TESTING

• Galvanizing- Test.
Stay wire supplied shall be easily cut by a hacksaw and easily bent through 180 by hand since bulldog clamps are to be used for fixing stay wires after bending
