Coco peat (cocopeat), also known as coir pith. coir fibre pith, coir dust, or simply coir, is made from coconut husks, which are byproducts of other industries that use coconuts.[1] Cocopeat primarily consists of the coir fibre pith or coir dust which is obtained by processing coconut husk and removing the long fibres. The cocopeat which is obtained can hold large quantities of water, just like a sponge. It is used as a replacement for traditional peat in soil mixtures, or, as a soil-less substrate for plant cultivation
Coir ( or coconut fibre, is a natural fibre extracted from the husk of coconut and used in products such as floor mats, doormats, brushes, and mattresses. Coir is the fibrous material found between the hard, internal shell and the outer coat of a coconut.
Coir Fibre is extracted from matured green and brown Coconut Husks. It is then processed into the finest fibres. Coir Fibre is of two types–brown and white. Coir obtained from fresh green Coconut is termed as White Fibre, which is finer than the Brown Fibre. The Brown Fibre are the outcome of Seasoned Fully Matured Coconuts which lose their green colour in the process. Each of them have their own distinct types of applications.
