Frequently used as a replacer or supplement to that oil where IFRA or other restrictions mean not enough can be used to get the desired effect. Often used to supplement clove bud oil, where restrictions prevent larger quantities being used.

Massoia Bark (Cryptocaria massoia) oil is being used in seasoning, traditional medicine and fragrance ingredient. C-10 Massoia lactone is a major constituent of its essential oil which has been proven as the antibacterial principle and has the ability to increase the phagocytic index of mice macrophage. In food industry, massoia bark CO2-extract is used to flavor food and beverages. Its sweet fragrance is reminiscent of coconut flavor. It is used for flavoring e.g. butter, milk and diary products, bakeries, confectionery, candies, ice cream, popcorn, cereals and dietary products. Massoia lactone has a pleasant odor which is described as sweet, coconutty, lactonic, creamy and milky. A concentration of 20-50 ppm gives products already a creamy, coconut, green, and slightly fruity taste.
