AU Optronics (AUO) is Taiwan's largest and a worldwide top 3 manufacturer of thin film transistor liquid crystal display panels (TFT-LCD). AUO is also the first TFT-LCD manufacturer to successfully list on the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE). AUO's former name was Acer Display Technology Inc., founded in 1996. It merged with Unipac Optoelectronics in September 2001 and was renamed AU Optronics (AUO). In October 2006, AUO merged with Quanta Display Inc. to create a stronger, larger and more efficient global company.
