The woodworking industry in Ukraine, particularly in the Transcarpathian region, is flourishing due to abundant forest resources. Transcarpathia boasts a significant forest cover, ranking first in Ukraine. The region's forests, covering 695.8 thousand hectares, primarily consist of beech (58.2%), spruce (26.4%), oak (8.5%), and other tree species (7.9%). Notably, more than 80% of the forested area is in the mountainous part of the region.
With 52% forest coverage, the region has 0.55 hectares of forests and 165 cubic meters of wood per capita, surpassing national averages. Over the past 50 years, forest area has increased by 10,000 hectares, with an average reserve of 358 cubic meters per hectare. The town of Zhdeniyevo houses a modern woodworking enterprise on a 2-hectare land with state-of-the-art equipment, capable of producing 25-30 cubic meters of finished products per shift.
The enterprise's equipment includes a Vertical band sawmill, laser buzzer, non-burning saw INEX, four-sided machine, cutting machine, grinding machine, wood chipper, and drying Termolegno. This facilitates the production of various wood products from both soft and hard wood.
The enterprise is contributing to the national economy by producing more than 300 types of goods for domestic and foreign markets. It focuses on modernization, forming production chains, and ecological considerations. The main goal is to develop the unused wood processing base, creating environmentally friendly wood products for domestic and international markets, thereby generating employment for the local population. Pressure-treated lumber is wood that has undergone a process of chemical treatment to enhance its durability and resistance to decay, insects, and other environmental factors. This treatment process involves placing the lumber in a pressure chamber and forcing preservative chemicals into the wood fibers. The most common preservative used in this process is chromated copper arsenate (CCA), but there are other alternatives like alkaline copper quaternary (ACQ) or copper azole.
1. Shields wood/lumber from environmental elements, preventing damage such as moisture infiltration, UV exposure, and dust accumulation 2. Breathable fabric, preventing condensation buildup that could lead to mold/ mildew growth on wood surface 3. Commonly used in construction sites, lumber yards, and industrial settings and are suitable for a wide range of lumber types and sizes, including dimensional lumber, plywood, boards, and more 4. Acts as a cushioning layer, guarding against scratches, nicks, and abrasions that can occur during handling and transport of lumber
