Hypophosphorous acid is used as a bleaching or decolorizing agent for plastics, synthetic fibres, and chemicals and also as a colour stabilizer and decolourizing agent in the manufacture of several plastics and chemicals. In electroplating it is used as a wetting, emulsifying or dispersing agent. The substance is used as an acidifying compound, chemical reducer, anti-oxidant, catalyst, in synthesis and electroless nickel plating and as a polishing agent.
