Aluminium fluoride is a colourless chemical compound with a molecular formula AlF3. It is mainly used in the production of aluminium. It occurs naturally as oskarssonite and rosenbergite. It can be manufactured synthetically too. The majority of aluminium fluoride is produced by treating hydrogen fluoride with alumina or aluminium oxide at 700 °C.

Potassium Aluminium Fluoride (PAF) Potassium Aluminium Fluoride is an inorganic salt used in numerous industrial applications. PAF is also known as: Potassium Cryolite, Potassium Tetrafluoraluminate, Kalium Aluminium Fluorid, KAlF, KAlF4/K3AlF6 Potassium Aluminum Fluoride is a commercial purity fused inorganic salt. It has useful properties and is used in a number of industrial applications. The compound is used as salt flux in the smelting of � secondary aluminium to maximize metal recovery, to reduce or remove the magnesium content of liquid aluminium alloys and as filler in the manufacture of abrasives. PAF is also present  in additives  for the metals industry  as a fluxing agent to accelarate  dispersion after addition.
Aluminium Fluoride is produced by reacting wet (3-7% H2O) Aluminium Hydroxide with the Hydrofluoric Acid gas in a one bed expanded fluid bed reactor. Aluminium Fluoride produced in this process will achieve higher purity, lower content of impurity, especially the SiO2 only 0.02-0.05%, P2O5 0.007%, which will provide better performance in the application of primary Aluminium smelting.

During Hindalco's copper production process, by-products such as sulphuric acid and copper slag are formed. Sulphuric acid is partly converted into phosphoric acid, which is then made to react with ammonia to make di-ammonium phosphate (DAP) fertiliser. During the process of making phosphoric acid, phosphogypsum and hydrofluosilicic acid (HFA) are formed. HFA is partly utilised to make aluminium fluoride, and rest is sold in the market. Sulphuric acid Hindalco produces sulphuric acid of IS 266/1993 technical grade. The sulphuric acid plants use the double contact double absorption (DCDA) process, and are designed by Monsanto Envirochem (USA). Phosphoric acid Hindalco's phosphoric acid plant is based on the Prayon Mark IV dihydrate technology provided by SNC Lavalin (Belgium). Phosphogypsum Phosphogypsum is a by-product of Hindalco's phosphoric acid plant. Copper slag (iron silicate) Copper slag is produced during the smelting process at Hindalco's copper smelter located at Dahej.
