Quartzite is a naturally occurring metamorphic rock composed mainly of quartz, which is a mineral that belongs to the group of silicate minerals. It forms when sandstone is subjected to intense heat and pressure deep within the earth's crust. This process causes the sand grains in the sandstone to recrystallize and fuse together into a dense, hard rock.
