OVEN Hardening Clay: Polymer clay remains workable until cured. Curing occurs when crafted clay is heated with a household microwave or oven at temperatures from 265 °F (129 °C) to 275 �°F (135 �°C) sustained for 15 minutes per 14 inch (6.4 mm) of thickness. AIR Hardening Clay: This clay does not need a kiln and will dry on its own. It is suited to free-form sculpting and can be sanded, drilled, painted, or varnished once dry. Ball clay, or plastic clay as it is also known, is an extremely rare mineral, only found at a handful of locations around the world. It is a kaolinitic clay that commonly consists of 20 - 80% kaolinite, 10 - 25% mica, 6 - 65% quartz as well as organic matter. Ball clay is formed from the weathering and transportation by water of parent rocks which are deposited in ancient river basins from where it is extracted. Applications: - Ball clays are prized for the production of traditional ceramics such as sanitaryware, tableware, wall and floor tiles as well as for technical ceramics and electrical porcelains. Ball Clay products are immensely used in the manufacturing of Ceramics, Sanitaryware, Vitrified Tiles, Glazes and Engobes ultramarine and in various other purposes. Calcined Clay or Refractory clay is obtained by Calcining (heating) superior-grade Clay at high temperatures (from 850o C to 1600o C). This removes moisture and volatiles which thereby increases the Alumina content. Compared to an Alumina content of about 30% to 40% in raw Clay, Calcined Clay has an Alumina content of 40% to 60%. The Calcination is carried out in Rotary Kilns at different temperatures ranging from 850o C to 1600o C depending upon the customer's application.
