The Hindu name for holy basil, Tulsi, means "the incomparable one." The variety of Ocimum basilicum used in Thai cuisine is referred to as Thai holy basil. Tulsi has been used for thousands of years in Ayurveda for its diverse healing properties. It is not to be confused with Thai basil which is a variety of Ocimum basilicum.

Calendula officinalis, also called as pot marigold, ruddles, common marigold, garden marigold, English marigold, or Scottish marigold. It is a plant in the genus Calendula of the family Asteraceae.

The petals and pollen of Calendula officinalis contain triterpenoid esters and the carotenoids flavoxanthin and auroxanthin .
Plant extracts are also widely used by cosmetics, presumably due to presence of compounds such as saponins, resins and essential oils.
