Typically split into two halves, copra is the dried meat of a mature coconut from which coconut oil is extracted for a wide range of applications. We carefully handpick fully mature coconuts at its finest to produce the best quality copra and carry out both sun and oven drying to keep the moisture content to a minimum. Our copra is available in edible, regular and mixed grades.
Dry coconuts are just that; dry. The milk within the coconut hardens as it matures and becomes the copra, or meat, of the coconut. After a coconut is first cracked the moisture content of the meat is roughly 50 percent and it contains around 30-40% oil. After being dried by heat or the sun, the moisture content dips down to 4 or 5% and the oil content jumps to 36-70%. The resulting Dry coconut is off-white to white in color with a mild coconut flavor.
Copra is coconut flesh that has gone through a drying process. Copra is usually used as a head derivative product which of course has a very important role as a raw material for making coconut oil and its derivatives. Copra can also be used as animal feed. There are 3 types of copra, including white copra or wet copra, smoked copra or dried copra, and sun-dried copra. High quality copra is made from coconuts that are 300 days old and weigh around 3-4 kg, resulting in copra with a water content of about 6-7 percent so that it is not susceptible to nuisance organisms
Dry coconut copra is the result of sun-drying the white, fleshy interior of coconuts until it becomes copra. With a concentrated nutty flavor, this dried coconut product is commonly used in cooking, baking, and various culinary applications. The drying process enhances the natural coconut aroma, creating a versatile ingredient.
