Product Description: Steel teeth Bits 114-117, 127 Soft Formation Tooth Bits The 114-117 bits are used to drill low-compressive strength, soft formation. Long projection tooth lengths are used on high offset cones to provide the greatest penetration rates possible. Wear-resistant hard facing is used to control tooth wear. On the softest bits type this hard facing completely covers the bit teeth. 127 Medium-Hard Formation Tooth Bits The 127 bits are used to drill high-compressive strength, medium hard formations. Short projection teeth with reduced crest length are used in this series of bit designs. Durable hard facing is applied to reduce tooth wear. Medium hard with high compressive strength and hard streak (hard shale ,sandstone , limestone, etc.) 437 Soft Formation TCI Tricone Bits The 437 TCI bits are used to drill low compressive strength, very soft formations. TCI bits maximize the use of both conical and chisel tungsten carbide inserts of large diameters and high projection. This cutting structure design, combined with maximum cone offset, result in high bit penetration rates. The deep intermesh of cutter rows prevents bit bailing in sticky formations. 517 Medium Formation TCI Tricone Bits The 517 features aggressive chisel tungsten carbide insert on the heel rows and inter rows. At some point it may be necessary to increase the size of a pre-drilled hole to a larger diameter or to drill large diameter holes. Hole opener bits are designed specifically for this purpose. Bits are custom manufactured in a wide range of styles to meet field requirements. A custom hole opener is an effective way of enlarging holes, hence the name "Hole Opener". The Hole Opener Advantage Straighter Holes - By drilling a smaller hole with a "pilot" bit, then attaching that said bit onto the bottom of the the hole opener. The hole opener will follow the path of the hole drilled by the smaller bit. Larger Holes with Smaller Rigs - By drilling a hole in stages, larger holes can be drilled with smaller rigs. A smaller hole requires less power. Replacing Cutters and Cutting Cost - On most Hole Opener designs, the cutters can be easily replaced. The cost to replace a cutter is a fraction of the cost to replace a large tricone rock bit. Cost of Large Rock Bits - Larger diameter rock bits not only cost a lot, they can be difficult to find. A more economic solution is to use a hole opener that uses smaller tricone rock bit segments.. Operational Considerations Drilling Weight - The choice of drilling weight is determined based on the recommendations of the bit manufacturer and the number of cutters on the hole opener. Number of Cutters - The number of cutters placed on a hole opener is governed by the following facts: 1.Maximum number which will fit around the perimeter. 2.The greater the number of cutters, the less the weight, which therefore reduces the penetration rate. 3.In softer formations, less weight is needed to penetrate. 4.The greater the number of cutters, the smoother the tool will run. 5.The greater the number of cutters, the greater the cost. 6.The greater the number of cutters, the longer the cutters will last Rotary Speed - Maximum speed is determined by the manufacturer's recommendation and the calculation to account for the linear distance the cutter is moving per revolution. Hole Cleaning - A frequently over looked point of hole opener operation is hole cleaning. The volume of cuttings to remove from a hole increase by a squared factor with an increase in hole diameter.
Horizontal Hole openers, also known as HDD reamer, are used to enlarge the diameter of a pre-drilled hole. They are custom built to specification, and come in a wide variety of sizes. HDD is used when trenching and excavating is not practical. This drilling technology allows for a steerable trenchless way to drill underground. There are three stages, the first stage is to drill a small diameter pilot hole. The second stage is enlarge the hole with a larger diameter cutting tool called an HDD Reamer, Rock Reamer or Hole Opener. The third stage is inserting the casing pipe or other product into the enlarged hole. Features: 1.
