Kaolin is a naturally occurring hydrated aluminum silicate crystalline mineral. The combination of platy shape and fine particles size results in improved spacing of TiO2 particles in a paint film and improved opacity. Calcined Kaolin is an anhydrous aluminum silicate produced by heating ultra fine natural kaolin to high temperatures in a kiln. The calcination process increases whiteness and hardness and alters the size and shape of the kaolin particles.
