Vanilla was introduced to Indonesia in 1819, as one of the collection plants at the Bogor Botanical Garden. Then, in 1864, it spread to other parts of Indonesia, such as Sumatra, Java, Sulawesi, Bali and Nusa Tenggara, and Papua. Vanilla is a plant that produces vanilla powder, which is usually used as an ingredient to give aroma or flavour to food. This powder is produced from pod-shaped vanilla pods.
