Chana and Chana Dal have always been essential ingredients in the Indian household, and its importance has now made it a part of the Oxford English Dictionary. The new edition of Oxford English Dictionary has various entries including the local Indian names for Chickpeas (Chana) and Chickpeas lentils (chana dal). The food ingredients have been deemed popular enough to have made it to the quarterly update. Chana and Chana Dal were a part of a vast list of more than 600 other words and phrases that have entered the most popularly used English dictionary.
