Hafnium carbide (HfC) is a gray metallic powder with a NaCl-type cubic crystal structure. It has the highest melting point among known single compounds. Hafnium carbide has high elasticity index, good electrical and thermal conductivity, very small thermal expansion coefficient and good impact resistance performance, widely used in hard alloy, aerospace, atomic energy, electronics, and high material technical field, such as hard thin film coatings. It is the most important basic materials of making a missile, rocket nozzle throat lining and satellite, spacecraft hood parts for thermal protection.
