As a plant that only grows on peat, purun has been used from generation to generation by the Dayak people in Central Kalimantan, mainly for weaving. Currently, villagers living in peat areas are innovating to create other products from purun plants in the form of disposable straws. The whole process is done manually, from carefully harvesting only the old purun and leaving the young ones, harvesting, washing, chopping, boiling, cleaning the inside part of the straw, to drying it, without the touch of chemicals.
