Product Description: Gypsum is Calcium Sulphate Dihydrate (CaSO4.2H2O) deposited in sedimentary layers on the seabed. Under high pressure and temperature, Gypsum turns into Anhydrite (CaSO4). Gypsum / Anhydrite are produced from open-cast mines or underground mines. Gypsum is normally only screened to remove â??finesâ?? (mainly mudstones), then crushed and finely ground for various applications. Gypsum is an indispensable component of Ordinary Portland Cement as it has a great influence on water consumption of standard consistency and strength simultaneously. During the cement manufacturing process, 4%-6% of Gypsum (by weight) in crushed form is introduced during the final grinding process upon cooling of clinker. It plays an important role in controlling the rate of hardening or setting of cement. If not added, the cement will set immediately after mixing of water leaving no time for concrete placing. Over 60% of Gypsum produced across the world is used in cement manufacturing. Other applications include the production of plaster, plasterboards, Gypsum fiberboard, and Gypsum blocks. It can also be used as a soil conditioner and has various other specialized applications. An important property of Gypsum is that it is naturally fire-resistant.
