Cobalt Tetroxide is similar to ferroferric oxide, and can be approximately regarded as a compound formed by cobalt oxide (CoO) and cobalt oxide (Co2O3). Black or grayish black powder. The apparent density is 0.5-1.5g/cm3, and the tap density is 2.0-3.0g/cm3. Cobalt Tetroxide can be slowly dissolved in hot sulfuric acid, but it is insoluble in water, n itric acid and h ydrochloric acid at room temperature. When heated above 1200 C, it will decompose into cobaltous oxide. When it is strongly heated to 900C in a hydrogen flame, it is reduced to metal cobalt.
