To make copra, the coconut meat is removed from the shell, sliced into half pieces, and then dried either through sun drying or artificial drying methods. This process removes the moisture content from the coconut flesh, preserving it for various uses. Copra is a key ingredient in the production of coconut oil and is also used in cooking, baking, and various coconut-based products. Its white color indicates that it has been properly dried and is suitable for further processing.
COPRA MEAL Coconut meal or copra meal is produced from the ripe fruit (nut) of the coconut palm (Cocos nucifera). Note The nut is split and the kernel is removed and dried below 6% moisture. This meal is called copra meal and still contains the oil. Care is needed when feeding copra meal to livestock to ensure that it is not rancid, as this will cause diarrhoea. Rancidity usually develops as a result of the meal being stored for too long under unfavourable conditions such as high temperature.
